Chapter 10
I balanced my cell on top of my drawers and stepped back. âI wish I knew about it beforehand, Mom.â I sighed and swiped some hair out of my face.
âDid you not read the welcome pack? It was in there.â She raised her brow at me on the screen. âIt even had the theme in there.â
I threw my hands up in the air. âNo one ever reads the welcome pack!â
Her laughter rang over the line, her head tilting back from the force. Iâm glad she thought this was funny. I was an hour away from having to leave for the hotel this fundraiser was taking place at and still had no idea what to wear. She was meant to be helping me on this video call, not making me feel like a big pile of poop.
âMom,â I groaned.
âOkay, okay.â She flicked her hands under her eyes and shook her head. âI knew you wouldnât read it, so I got you something.â
I stepped closer, pushing my face as close to the screen as I could. âYou did?â
âI did.â She paused. âBut you may not like it, I know how you get withââ
âI donât care what it is, seriously.â
She smiled and moved closer. âI asked Gabriel to place them outside your door for me.â I frowned. When had she talked to Gabe? And why did she have that dreamy look on her face? âNow go and get them and send me lots of pics.â
I clipped my head in a nod. âOkay. Thank you, Mom.â
âAnytime, my beautiful strawberry.â
I snorted and ended the call, sending a silent prayer of thanks for having a mom who was so organized, it wasnât even funny. One day I would attempt to be that organized, but in the meantime, Iâd stick to being my own fly-by-the-seat-of-my-pants self.
I stepped over to my door, pulled it open, and gathered the box off the floor and the bag that hung off the handle. The house was practically silent, and I had no idea if that was a good thing or bad.
This fundraiser was all everyone had talked about since Thursday evening and the amount of girls who had come over after the meeting to bag themselves an invite was ridiculous. There was a line of them all the way to the sidewalk, no joke.
I puffed out a breath. How the heck had I not known about this? Was I that oblivious to what was going on around me? Iâd always focused entirely on my goals, but things had changed since I got here. First, there was the fact that Iâd gotten laid, then the drama section of the college that wasnât what I expected in the slightest, but Iâd grown to love. How could everything change so much over the course of two months?
I moved back into my room and closed the door. Maybe it was time I stopped thinking about my end goal and instead enjoyed what was right in front of me? Back in high school, parties had
